Vaio Z dock station PRZ10 DVI Audio output?

Since Vaio Z Series (VPZ1) has audio managed by NVIDIA chipset, I'm thinking about buying the dock station PRZ10 that delivers only a DVI-D connection...



I read at dvi wiki that using a passive adapter like HDMI female to DVI male 24+1, NVIDIA HD audio drivers should send audio through dock station DVI port



Could be possible ?

I've wondered this myself. I HIGHLY doubt it will work. But there is a chance that the DVI port is just a pass through of sorts and it actually might work. When I get a dock someday... I'll be sure to try it.

I bought this: For only $1.97 each when QTY 50+ purchased - DVI-D Single Link Male to HDMI Female adapter | DVI <--> HDMI and can't get audio through HDMI.

well, this guy tells st about that ATi Radeon graphic cards that manage digital audio too, can do it



Enable Audio Over DVI and HDMI in Windows XP or Windows Vista



he tells that proper adapter must be something like ATi DVI to HDMI one, and if you search at ebay

and the one "xxGenericSNxx" talks about is kinda different... look at pictures is like it seems that the 24+1 works only...

you need dual link that is all, look at that ATI adapter, it is dual link

bought the adapter at ebay, item located in Hong Kong, so I've to wait 3 weeks.... :|



however I think that is not possible 'cos HD audio from NVIDIA only was setted to go through HDMI port... maybe some software hack could fix the problem, but nothing found yet...

I have a dock now, perhaps I'll do some experiments. I don't care all that much about HDMI audio because I am going to loose it when I get a Matrox dual monitor setup, but it will be interesting to see if it is in there.

congrats about your new dock!! hope you'll find st through dvi audio... I hate connectig every time hdmi cable haha... anyway it helps me a lot with all the rest cables: ipod nano usb, AC power, wireless keyboard and mouse, external bd player/burner (I've the Z dvd version), ethernet... but... Audio HD, I read sw about a usb audio card, but thinking if it can supports codecs like 5.1 LMPCM or DTS-HD... mmm
